RENOWNED MAGAZINE EDITOR ROVERT IVY, FAIA, TO DELIVER KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT THE TRADITIONAL BUILDING EXHIBITION AND CONFERENCE IN BALTIMORE
Washington, D.C. -- Where can you learn more about tax credits and challenges in the restoration and rehabilitation of old buildings, get tips for creating sympathetic additions to existing traditional buildings, and receive pointers from master craftsmen as you earn continuing education credits? Where can you see new products used in the traditional building industry and talk to representatives? The Traditional Building Exhibition and Conference is proud to present smart solutions for a challenging market in Baltimore, Maryland, October 21-24, 2009, at the Baltimore Convention Center. Robert Ivy, FAIA, vice president, editorial director, and editor-in-chief, Architectural Record magazine, will deliver the keynote address on Friday October 22. In a March 2009 editorial for Architectural Record, Ivy sounded the call for building preservation. “In a down economy," he wrote, "it makes good sense to make the most of what you have…Preservation is environmentally correct and the most sustainable thing you can do.” Attendance at this unique event is essential for architects, building owners, restoration-rehabilitation specialists, custom builders, interior designers, general contractors, homeowners, developers, and facilities managers. The exhibit hall will feature hard-to-find products and specialty items used in commercial and residential historic preservation and traditionally inspired new construction. Company experts will be available for consultation. "Traditional Building Live" will feature demonstrations of traditional building crafts and new products. Selected educational programs will be offered free of charge in the Traditional Building Live Theater on the show floor to any ticket holder. The conference will feature 65 educational tours, seminars, and workshops, with a strong emphasis on exemplary preservation and traditional building projects from the Chesapeake Bay area. From the Basilica of the Assumption to the ubiquitous rowhouse, Baltimore has maintained a rich and varied legacy of historic buildings. Today, the city is full of vibrant neighborhoods, young professionals, tasty eateries, and significant cultural and educational institutions. Packages are available to attend the educational sessions for up to four days. This is an exciting opportunity for networking in the field of traditional building, in an historic city with extensive opportunities to learn and have fun.
